Atiq Grand Mosque

Worshipers in the Old Grand Mosque

Shiraz Atiq Grand Mosque is the oldest mosque in the city, which is also called Juma Mosque or Adineh Mosque. It is said that the building of this mosque was built on a place of worship, but it is not known to which period this place of worship belongs. The original building of the mosque was built in 281 AH during the reign of Omar Laith Saffari. After that, in the year 752 AH, Shah Ishaq built a building in the middle of the mosque, which is called "Dar al-Mus'haf", which was the place where the Holy Quran was kept and recited. There is also an inscription in the script of Yahya al-Jamali al-Sufi, who was one of the famous calligraphers of Shah Ishaq. In this inscription, sentences have been written in the honor of the Holy Quran. This mosque has 6 entrances. The Atiq Mosque of Shiraz was registered in the list of national monuments of Iran on January 6, 1961 with the number 72.
